KBI begins largest ever Flexipave installation with The Casey Group

Thursday 6th May 2021

KBI UK Ltd has this week begun its largest ever installation of our class-leading Flexipave porous surfacing system.

Working for main contractor The Casey Group, 18,000m2 of Flexipave will be used to transform the Swinton Greenway in Salford, Greater Manchester. The first material deliveries arrived on Tuesday 4th May to allow the 1st phase of installation to begin.

Over 50,000 recycled tyres will be used on the project, making it one of the largest recycling projects the region has seen. The project will also be one of the UK's largest installations of porous surfacing, as the Greater Manchester region continues to drive its message of sustainability via its Mayor Andy Burnham. Many used tyres are incinerated, with the average tyre releasing 22kg of CO2 when burned. Had the tyres on this project been incinerated, 1.1 million KG of Co2 would have been generated.

The newly resurfaced Swinton Greenway will offer improved access for all users, and create a clear, safe route for cyclists, walkers and equine users.

The project is the third time KBI UK has worked for The Casey Group in the last five years, having successfully resurfaced the Tyldsley Loop Line and Port Salford Greenway using Flexipave. The Swinton Greenway will cement Flexipave & KBI as the leading porous pathway solution provider in the Greater Manchester region.

Further updates will be posted throughout the project. Follow the KBI feeds on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date.
