KBI UK supports completion of Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease with surfacing expertise.

As Prince William officially opened the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds, Barnsley-based KBI UK, the original and leading porous surfacing expert, is proud to have supported the project with the installation of high-quality resin-bound surfacing, delivered at cost.

Commissioned under principal contractor I&G Ltd and designed by Leeds-based landscape architects Re-Form, the centre’s external areas were completed with 440 square metres of durable resin-bound surfacing in elegant Evening Rose, supplied by KBI’s long-term material partner, Vuba.

KBI’s installation team installed surfacing to both the north elevation, providing accessible pathways at the main entrance, and the south elevation, which includes a sensory garden and walk-through space for patients and families. The project reflects a shared commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable environments across all areas of the new facility.

Approached by Re-Form to support the build on a charitable basis, KBI responded without hesitation. The work was carried out by a dedicated team of five, including Anthony Irvine, a former KBI project manager and current strategic partner, who previously played rugby alongside Rob Burrow at Leeds.

“This project means a lot to us on both a personal and professional level,” said Graham Pell, Managing Director of KBI UK. “It’s a privilege to have contributed to such a vital and compassionate space. We’re grateful to Re-Form and I&G for involving us, and proud to support the legacy of a centre that will bring comfort, care, and community to so many.”

The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease is named in honour of the late Leeds Rhinos legend, whose high-profile advocacy, courage in sharing his diagnosis and determination to improve care for others, sparked the national fundraising effort that turned his vision into reality.

Commissioned by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the centre brings a wide range of valuable MND services under one roof. Funded through Leeds Hospitals Charity’s £6.8 million appeal, the centre includes clinical treatment areas, research space, and quiet outdoor zones to enhance patient wellbeing.
