Liverpool’s world famous Albert Dock attracts thousands of visitors each year, and the estate is managed by Savills Management Services. Mouchel Architects - who had used Flexipave successfully on a number of other projects - recommended KBI UK to Savills. KBI were advised that there had been repeated problems with the tree surrounds on the dock, caused by the inflexible resin bound material cracking and splitting the surface. As a result, the existing trees were dying, and so they needed a durable surfacing product that would encourage tree growth by being both porous and flexible, as well as having an attractive appearance. Due to its popularity, the site was experiencing an increasingly high footfall, and Flexipave was accepted as the ideal material for the project, and KBI were instructed to install 72 tree pits around the site in 2 phases.
“The team at Savills is delighted with the results”, said Sean.
“KBI Flexipave is a great product that will prove to be very cost effective and I am already looking at using it for other applications at Albert Dock.”
Flexipave was laid at 50mm depth in each of the 72 tree pits, using Stone Age Bronze colour.
Completed 2015.
